ePortfolio

bit10 has been working with Serco Learning to develop ePortfolio since May 2008 and has been involved in all stages of production. From initial planning and creative design concepts, to development and testing, bit10 has utilised a wide range of its resource, to ensure that the completed product meets the expectations of both Serco Learning and the educational market.

ePortfolio provides learners with an opportunity to gather, review, identify and present evidence to show growth and change over time against a range of competency frameworks, providing the learner with the means to celebrate, reflect and illustrate their learning journey, leading to a truly personalised learning experience.

Working with a large organisation such as Serco Learning has been really beneficial as they have constantly challenged bit10 to develop a product that sets a new benchmark for educational software. As an SME (small medium enterprise), bit10 has the flexibility and capability to move and adapt quickly so that ePortfolio was available for pilot in May 2009 – only 12 months since the initial discussions were started. Serco is always committed to developing exciting and innovative products for schools and often collaborate with external development partners to achieve this goal. The decision to partner with bit10 to develop ePortfolio ensured that the product captured the imagination of learners, whilst supporting new approaches to curriculum delivery.

As a large organisation, Serco Learning is able to leverage its extensive customer base and expertise in education to market ePortfolio to schools, colleges and universities. They have dedicated education consultants who work with institutions to maximise the impact of the software and support real educational transformation. SMEs, like bit10, often don’t have large teams or sufficient marketing force to enable the successful promotion and launch of a new product to the educational market.

Working in partnership enables the best use of resources so that the benefits of new product development can be shared with schools and colleges. The product is scheduled for full release in September 2009, with Serco Learning including ePortfolio in their Facility Aspire suite.
