Here at bit10, we use an iterative project and development methodology that is based around the rigour of PRINCE II, but gives us the flexibility and continual delivery mechanism of an agile-based methodology.
The key differentiator is that we do not hide away in a dark room for months and then deliver the finished product as a ‘fait accompli’, but have 2-3 week delivery cycles throughout the lifecycle of the project. This guarantees continual interaction, reporting and feedback with our customers and enables us to identify and resolve any issues or challenges early on to ensure that we meet, and hopefully exceed, our customer’s expectations.
Our methodology features: -
Project definition — each project starts with a requirements document that details the definition and scope for the project. We also create a Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) to ensure that we have captured every requirement of our customer, and to allow us to ensure that we have delivered these as part of the product.
Planning — every project has a high level project plan to allow estimates to be put together and an initial critical path determined, and a number of lower level plans for the delivery cycles. The plans are updated throughout the lifecycle of the project to ensure that each component of the project is delivered on time.
Web-based RAID and RTM management — we use a web interface for our clients allowing quick and easy entry and reporting on project Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies (RAID), and RTM. Effective RAID and RTM management is at the core of successful project delivery, and whilst the absence of RTM can be a major cause of project slippage due to ‘scope creep’, it can also be used to ensure that the client receives maximum value for money with all agreed requirements being delivered.
Change control for key documents — each project document is subject to change control to ensure that only the most recent version is used and that project requirements and documents are clear and up to date.
Support – We don’t cast you adrift once we have delivered your solution, we will continue to help and support you during our warranty period and beyond that we have a number of maintenance and support agreements that are fully customisable.
At bit10 we firmly believe that our customers are an active part of the delivery team and we will work together every step of the way to ensure that projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the agreed specification.
